How to get your business cited by ChatGPT

You cannot force ChatGPT to recommend a business, but you can make the business easier to verify. The strongest foundation is a clear website identity, consistent third-party information, useful service content, and sources that an answer engine can retrieve and cite.
Start with a clear business entity
Publish the exact business name, canonical website, service area, services, contact details, and ownership information in crawlable HTML. Use Organization or LocalBusiness schema where it accurately describes the business, and connect official profiles with sameAs links.
Write pages that answer buyer questions directly
Create useful pages for questions such as “best [service] in [city],” “how much does [service] cost,” and “which [service] is right for [need].” Lead each section with a concise answer, then explain the reasoning, limitations, process, and evidence. Do not create thin pages that only repeat a keyword.
Earn citations outside your own website
Answer engines often use review sites, directories, local publications, and industry resources to corroborate a business. Keep those profiles accurate and pursue genuine coverage, partnerships, and customer reviews. Self-published claims are weaker than consistent information across trusted independent sources.
Make freshness and provenance visible
Show the author or responsible team, publication date, update date, service area, and source links. For claims that change—pricing, availability, regulations, or service coverage—include the date and explain how the information was verified.
Measure recommendation, not just citation
Being cited does not guarantee being recommended. Track whether the business is named, where it appears in the answer, which competitors appear, which URLs are cited, and how the answer describes the business. Repeat the same buyer questions over time because answer-engine responses are not permanent rankings.
VisiScan runs this measurement across ChatGPT, Claude, Perplexity, and Gemini, then connects missed recommendations to readiness and citation fixes.
